How SaveIt! Bridges the Mobile Ecosystem
With all these really cool new phones and tablets on the market I am facing a problem. It’s kind of a good problem; you see, my wife bought me a mini iPad for my birthday, I picked up an Android
Galaxy S3 several months ago….and my office is buying me an iPhone for my work phone. Here’s my problem: because I'm doing so much device juggling, I am afraid I’m going to leave one at the gym, coffee shop or my kids are going to break one while playing Angry Birds. The devices are one thing, but what about all the data? Because each device has different uses, I have different information on each one. What’s an early adopter, gadget guy to do?
Of course each of these devices has a backup and restore function for select user data and I do use this. However, I really dislike going to the Google
Fortress for the Android phone, the Apple Fortress for my iPad, (and the Microsoft Windows Live Fortress for a future phone). What I really want is for all these systems to talk to each other…can’t they all just get along?
The trouble is these companies realized some time ago that he/she with the most customer data WINS. Each of them has absolutely no motivation or desire to open the gates of their fortress and let information flow freely. The altruistic position is that user data should be the user’s property. But users make tradeoffs when benefitting from “free” systems like Gmail, Facebook, and SkyDrive where they trade access to their personal data for the benefits from experiencing these systems. Personally, I am not against this as long as people know, but
what really bugs me is when the balkanization of data gets in the way of me moving through my day or getting things done.
What I really want is a single service that enables me to back up and restore my user data from all three of my devices that I can manage from a single website. Also, if I choose to change from an iPad mini to the new Android Nexus tab, it should be easy to move my information over. That’s why I am really excited about February's release of SaveIt! With this update of our Windows Phone version of SaveIt, it does not matter if a user has an Android, iPhone, or a Windows Phone. Contacts, Calendars, and Pictures can be restored or moved from any operating system to any other operating system…no worries.
Download SaveIt! from the app store to your first phone or tablet and create an account and back up your data. Then, download SaveIt! to your second device, sign in with the same username and password and do another backup. SaveIt! can handle an UNLIMITED amount of devices on each account, five backup datasets for each device and it doesn’t matter what operating system is being used; SaveIt! doesn’t care. So, if you are a single user with multiple devices like me, a family or small business, all devices can be included on the same account.
Now combine this with a great pricing plan designed to encourage use. With SaveIt! you can back up an unlimited amount of data for each device on your account (unlimited amount of devices) and pay only $1.99 if you ever need to restore the data from one device into a new device (ie upgrade your tablet, replace a missing phone, etc). And again, it doesn’t matter if the new device is the same operating system or another, SaveIt! smoothly transfers your data. A great value if you have one phone, or a small business with 25 connected devices. Back them all up for free and only pay when you move the data into a new device.
Juggling my devices and my digital life just got a lot easier.

Move contacts, calendar, pictures and videos from any smartphone to your new Windows Phone completely over-the-air for free. No cables to desktops or laptops or complicated steps involved.
Microsoft is gearing up for their Windows Phone 8 release in October. In support of the release, Nokia is releasing the Lumia 920 and HTC is releasing the HTC 8X and the HTC 8S.
The hardware on the HTC and the Nokia, however the HTC 8X is a little smaller. Regardless, they are both beautiful and worth a look for that Christmas present.
If you are thinking about buying a new Windows phone you should know, that like Apple and Android, Windows Phone 8 has an ecosystem called Live.com. Signing into the Windows Phone 8 Live.com account means your contacts, calendar, and mail get synced to Live.com automatically. You can even configure the Windows 8 phone to automatically upload pictures to your SkyDrive. While the creation of or use of the Live.com is not mandatory to use Windows Phone 8, the best user experience involves signing into Live.com.
Getting prepared to switch to a Windows Phone 8 means having or signing up for a Live.com account. But how do you get your contacts, calendar pictures and videos copied into your new Windows Live account and SkyDrive to be sync’d to your new phone? If you've been manually entering new contacts and calendar appointments, getting them off your current smartphone and to your new Windows Phone is no easy task. You can again manually re-enter the contacts and calendar into your Windows Phone; but why do that. My Father always taught me to "work smart, not hard". For example, there are solutions that require you to connect your old smart phone to your desktop or laptop and sync your contacts and calendar to your computer, then connect your Windows Phone to the computer and sync the information through the cable to your new phone. In my opinion, these options are archaic, difficult, time consuming, have too many steps and require cables, computers, desktop applications, and technical know-how.
With the advent of cloud based services, SaveIt! was designed to directly transfer your contacts, calendar, pictures, and videos from your Android, iOS, or Blackberry device to your new Windows Phone over the air without the need of cables and a computer. In fact, you don't need to use your expensive data plan but rahter, use Wi-Fi and nothing more than your current phone to get started. Use SaveIt Backup to upload all your contacts, calendar, pictures, and videos over Wi-Fi to the SaveIt! Cloud.
This free service ensures your key information is securely stored in the Cloud and accessible from anywhere. You can access your backups even without a phone and directly from the Cloud through the SaveIt web portal at http://icansaveit.com.
When you get your new Microsoft Windows Phone 8, simply login into the phone with your Live.com account and download the SaveIt App from the Marketplace. Run the App and select Restore. The App will transfer the contacts, calendar, pictures, and videos stored in the SaveiT! Cloud and formerly on your previous smartphone, into your Live.com and SkyDrive services. Once the transfer to Live and SkyDrive is completed, the information from your old phone is now available on your new Windows 8 phone.
All this without cables or a computer or any type of technical know-how.
Get started now with SaveIt! for your Android, iOS, or Blackberry smartphone and after you purchase your new Windows Phone, download SaveIt! for Windows Phone and make the transfer.
Here are three great Android devices for the holidays. If you are an Android fan and are looking to upgrade, you should take a look at these for the 2012 holiday shopping season.
LG Optimus L9 with T-Mobile:
One thing I really like about the T-Mobile version of the LG Optimus 9 (and the Samsung Galaxy 3) is Wi-Fi calling. This is a feature near and dear to my
heart. With the app turned on and your phone configured to work on your Wi-Fi network, all calls will use Wi-Fi rather than the cellular network. Why is that important?
Coverage: I work in a rural area with sketchy cellular coverage so holding a conversation on my mobile while in the office is inconsistent at best. However, with Wi-Fi calling turned on, my phone uses our office Wi-Fi network and BAM! solid in building coverage and a great sound.
No Roaming fees: Although Wi-Fi calling minutes are counted against your subscription plan, there are no roaming fees when using Wi-Fi. So, if you’re on that trip in Europe or Asia and you want to call home, connect to your office or local coffee shop hotspot and make the call! Please note – Call T-Mobile Customer Care to make sure the “Free WiFi Calling” feature is turned on in your account – it’s a free option. Also, you are in Europe and calling a European number, Wi-Fi calling will get rid of roaming fees BUT you will still be charged long distance fees.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2:
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is big and optimized for two handed use. Samsung took a risk putting out a device that’s between a phone and a tablet
(some people call it a phablet) but the Note has gained an enthusiastic fan base. The Galaxy Note 2, is an evolution from the original Galaxy Note. With a Exynos 1.66 GHz quad core processor, it’s faster, and with a 5.5” super amoled screen, it’s brighter. Past this, a number of refinements have been incorporated such as a pop-up mini browser to review web links from the email screen (so you don’t have to exit email) and “Quick Glance” which lets a user wave their hand over the device which wakes up and notifies the user of missed calls and un-read emails and text messages. The Samsung Galaxy Note runs Android 4.1 and should be in stores around October 24th
HTC One X+: This is definitely a fast phone that gives the Samsung Galaxy S3 a run for its money. The HTC One+ features quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 1.7 GHz chipset, a GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of built-in memory. Unfortunately, there is no slot for a micro SD card…a BIG minus in my book. The One X is made from a single piece of polycarbonate plastic which has
received positive commentary. The display is a 4.7" Super LCD2 unit with 720p resolution, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 with optical lamination for reduced light reflection. Finally, HTC has taken Beats audio one step further by providing two amps – one for the headphone, one for the speaker which makes for superior sound. The HTC One+ runs Android 4.1 and is available at AT&T now and rumored to launch at T-Mobile this month.
Moving your memories and data with SaveIt!:
The biggest problem when changing smart phones is not choice; there are plenty to choose from, but rather the actual process of moving your
stuff over to the new phone. You have hundreds of contacts, pictures, videos, text messages that you want to save. But how does one do this easily? Let's talk about SaveIt! Due to the openness of the Android Operating system SaveIt! can move Contacts, Calendar, SMS, MMS, your Call Log, User Dictionary, Browser Bookmarks, Browser History, Playlists, System Settings, Non-DRM Audio, Pictures and Videos. Everything you might want to move to your new Android smartphone.
First, download SaveIt! from the Google Play Store to your old Android phone and install. Once you have registered, select "Back Up". I advise you to have your phone connected to Wi-Fi so you don't consume your data plan. When you buy your new Android smartphone, whichever one you pick, download SaveIt! from the Google Play Store, sign in and select "Restore". SaveIt will automatically populate your new smartphone with everything you thought you left behind in your old phone.
SaveIt! is free to backup unlimited data for the life of the phone however restoring data to a new phone is $7.99. A small price to pay considering the time it would take to re-populate your phone with all your important stuff.
Try it free for 3 months!
