Floris van Schoonhoven (~1594-1648) verfasste in Leiden lateinische Gedichte, die 1613 als Poemata antehac non edita erschienen. Im vierten Buch dieser Sammlung, das den Titel Lalage sive Amores Pastorales trägt, umwirbt der Hirte Daphnis die Geliebte Lalage. Einen besonderen Reiz dieses ludicrum carmen macht das Zusammenspiel von bukolischem Setting, metrischer Vielfalt und Elementen der Liebeselegie und des Romans aus. Hier knüpft der Autor an die literarische Tradition der Lusus Pastorales an, die um 1500 in Italien entstand. Der vorliegende Band bietet eine moderne Edition des lateinischen Textes mit deutscher Übersetzung und einen ausführlichen Kommentar, in dem Schoonhovens souveräner Umgang mit antiken Vorbildern wie Catull oder Horaz, aber auch mit humanistischen Prätexten deutlich wird. In der Einleitung werden nach einem Kapitel zu Schoonhovens Leben und Werk die Struktur des Gedichtbuches, Sprache, Metrik und Imitationstechniken sowie die Gattungszugehörigkeit untersucht.
