Dieser Band behandelt vergleichend das Phänomen der Kurzwortbildung im Deutschen und im Schwedischen. Auf der Grundlage von selbst erstellten Korpora werden phonologische Aspekte wie Silbenzahl und Silbenstruktur der Belege sowie die Pluralbildung substantivischer Kurzwörter analysiert. Dabei zeigt sich, dass das Deutsche und das Schwedische Kurzwörter und andere Wortschatzeinheiten an der Peripherie des Lexikons wie etwa Fremdwörter sehr unterschiedlich behandeln. Während das Deutsche verschiedene Wortschatzbereiche recht stark isoliert, hat das Schwedische eher integrative Züge. Neben konkreten Erkenntnissen über das phonologische und grammatische Verhalten von Kurzwörtern in den Untersuchungssprachen macht diese Arbeit deutlich, dass zwischen dem Deutschen und dem Schwedischen tiefgreifende Unterschiede in der Behandlung der Peripherie des Wortschatzes bestehen. Damit sind die Ergebnisse nicht nur für die Kurzwortforschung, sondern auch für die Lexik des Deutschen und des Schwedischen im Allgemeinen interessant.
