Die Literatur als Medium, das in der Uneindeutigkeit und in der Doppelbödigkeit erst seine vollen Sinnpotentiale entfaltet pflegt spätestens seit der Frühaufklärung einen eigenen Menschenwürdediskurs, der nicht bloß außerliterarische Argumentationen reproduziert, sondern die Frage nach der Menschenwürde auf eigene Weise, mit genuin literarischen Mitteln, beantwortet. Die Studie zeichnet die bislang vernachlässigten literarischen Dimensionen der Menschenwürde nach, anhand eines breiten Textcorpus, das von der Frühaufklärung bis in die Gegenwart reicht und unter anderem Texte von Gottsched, Schiller, Kotzebue, Büchner, Benn, P. Weiss, Schlink, Jelinek und von Schirach beinhaltet.
