Was ist ein historisches Ereignis? Wie wird es ein Narrativ in Literatur und anderen kulturellen Medien? Und wie werden die Narrative Teil des kulturellen Gedächtnisses bzw. (supra)nationaler Gedächtnispolitiken? Das sind die Forschungsfragen, denen die Autorinnen und Autoren des vorliegenden Sammelbandes anhand einer der 'Urszenen' in der Geschichte des "kurzen" 20. Jahrhunderts nachgehen: des Attentats von Gavrilo Princip und seiner Gruppe auf den österreichisch-ungarischen Thronfolger und dessen Ehefrau am 28. Juni 1914 - ein Ereignis, das den Anfang einer Verwicklung markiert, die zum Ersten Weltkrieg führte. Präsentiert werden die Ergebnisse einer von der EU mitgetragenen, interdisziplinären wie internationalen Tagung zum Thema im Juni 2014 vor Ort, bei der Historiographie, Literatur-, Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften in einen Dialog traten.
