In den deutschen Streitkräften waren von 1939 bis 1945 mehrere Hundert katholische Seelsorger für die religiöse Betreuung der deutschen Soldaten im Eroberungs- und Vernichtungskrieg verantwortlich. Hitlers Krieg und ein Sieg der Wehrmacht konnten kein Sieg der katholischen Geistlichen sein.Ausgehend von diesem erklärungsbedürftigen Spannungsverhältnis geht Martin Röw der Frage nach, inwiefern die Geistlichen sich im Zwiespalt zwischen katholischer Kirche einerseits, Wehrmacht und NS-Weltanschauung andererseits befanden.Vor allem auf Grundlage von Selbstzeugnissen entsteht ein Bild davon, was katholische Militärseelsorge im Zweiten Weltkrieg bedeutete und welchen Anteil sie an diesem Krieg hatte.
