Frau Rotlaub ist 90 Jahre alt und auf pflegerische Unterstützung angewiesen. Zu ihren Nachbarn hat sie täglichen Kontakt, ein befreundetes Ehepaar besucht sie regelmäßig, um mit ihr zu musizieren, und bei der Kaffeerunde in der Wohnanlage sieht man Frau Rotlaub oft und gerne. Während sich die bezahlte Nachbarschaftshilfe um ihren Haushalt kümmert, stellt ein Pflegedienst die fachliche Betreuung sicher. Je nach Gesundheitszustand kommen die Helfer zusammen, um ihre Aktivitäten neu aufeinander abzustimmen.Neben dem Unterstützungsnetzwerk von Frau Rotlaub werden Beziehungsgeflechte von fünf weiteren älteren Menschen in qualitativen Studien analysiert. Gezeigt wird zum einen, wie in Wohnprojekten des "Netzwerk: Soziales neu gestalten" Selbstbestimmung und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe erhalten und ausgeweitet werden kann. Zum anderen wird eine wichtige Bedingung der Unterstützung sichtbar: auch die Unterstützenden müssen von der besonderen Situation in den Wohnprojekten profitieren können. Insgesamt zeichnet sich eine neue Architektur des Zusammenlebens ab, in der die Beteiligten jenseits der eigenen Handlungslogiken füreinander mitdenken. Das institutionelle Rückgrat dieser Architektur bildet die in den Wohnprojekten fest verankerte Gemeinwesenarbeit.Die vorliegenden Erkenntnisse können die Politik, die Gemeinwesenarbeit und die Wissenschaft sozialer Arbeit bei der Beantwortung der Frage unterstützen, wie durch die Vermittlung vielfältiger Interessenlagen kleinräumige Unterstützungspotenziale zu entwickeln sind, um einen gelungenen Welfare Mix zu gestalten.
