About this book
Specially arranged and simplified, these pieces offer beginners the pleasure and satisfaction of playing Beethoven. Students and teachers alike will delight in such popular melodies as "Für Elise," "Ode to Joy," and the haunting opening of the Moonlight Sonata.
A First Book of Beethoven features 24 selections, including "Romance in F," "Turkish March," "Minuet in G," and "Bagatelle in G Minor." It includes excerpts from the sonatas — such as the opening of the 2nd movement of Sonata No. 14, the "Adagio" from Piano Sonata No. 5, and "Adagio Cantabile" from Sonata No. 8 — as well as highlights from the symphonies.
Along with the twenty-four piano arrangements, this collection includes a free MP3 download for every piece, which will help beginning pianists develop an ear for the melodies. The MP3s may be downloaded individually or collectively.

Editorās Note
Continuing Doverās renowned series, My First Book of Beethoven is meant to bring the joys of Beethovenās music to beginning pianists of all ages. These carefully selected and arranged pieces are designed to develop both the fingers and ears, as well as introduce the more memorable masterpieces of the composer. Most of the works focus on a specific skill: e.g., reading notes above the staff in Rondo beginning on page 9, and double-octaves in the Piano Concerto No. 4 on page 34. Fingerings are provided as a suggestion and should not be taken too literally, as each set of hands playing these arrangements is unique. Teachers and students will be the best judges of that. Also, phrasing and pedaling are left open so as to make the music less daunting. These too can be filled in as the student progresses.
Romance in F
This charming Romance was originally written for violin and piano. Be careful of the sharps and flats, and donāt rush. The tempo is marked Andante, which means āat a walking pace.ā
