A guardare la storia musicale della città di Bologna dal Cinquecento in poi, ci accorgiamo che forse il momento piÚ splendido è quello del grande barocco, tra la seconda metà del Seicento e il primo Settecento. à quello il momento in cui vengono fondate grandi istituzioni, alcune ancora vivissime ancora oggi come l'Accademia Filarmonica; è quello il momento in cui il magnifico apparato della religiosità controriformistica trova nelle basiliche della seconda città dello stato pontificio la massima espressione; è quello il momento nel quale iniziano la loro attività i teatri per l'opera. Successivamente, nella seconda metà del secolo, la città sembra invece quasi ritirarsi su se stessa, in attesa di un Ottocento che cambierà e in quale modo allargherà persino i luoghi di incontro e le occasioni per la musica. Tuttavia, in quella 'quiete sotto la cenere', brilla un faro che consente a Bologna di rimanere un polo d'attrazione per tutta l'Europa musicale. Questo faro si chiama Giovanni Battista Martini. à nel nome di questo musicista sapiente che compiremo il nostro viaggio dentro al Museo della Musica di Bologna.
