Der vorliegende Band untersucht die strukturparallelen Texte der beiden Thessalonicherbriefe unter eschatologischen Aspekten. Dies hilft, das literarische Verhältnis der beiden Schreiben besser zu verstehen und den 1Thess als Prätext des 2Thess zu erweisen. Ein dichtes Gefüge von Verbindungen zwischen den korrespondierenden Abschnitten wird sichtbar und ermöglicht neue Zugänge zur Intention des Verfassers des 2Thess.Unter den Motiven, deren zeit- und religionsgeschichtlicher Hintergrund untersucht wird, finden die Eleusinischen Mysterien besondere Erwähnung. Nicht zuletzt aus den Konnotationen von "Anti-Gott" und "Widersacher" schließt Dagenbach für den 2Thess auf die für ein Pseudepigraph frühe Abfassungszeit zwischen 66 und 70 n. Chr.
