El libro presenta los resultados de una investigación expresamente diseñada para abordar el tema de la arqueología del arte rupestre mediante un tratamiento arqueológico. Basado en la premisa según la cual restos aqueológicos del proceso de producción y uso pueden ser depositados en cercanía a rocas con arte rupestre, se realizó un trabajo arqueológico en varios sitios del municipio de El Colegio, Cundinamarca. Como resultado se proponen diferentes contextos en que aparece el arte rupestre, lo que demuestra la variabilidad de usos que tuvo en una época mucho más temprana de lo que tradicionalmente se creía. Arqueología del arte rupestre se convierte así en una exploración metodológica que arroja resultados fascinantes y abre una nueva puerta para el estudio de los sistemas de pensamiento de las sociedades precolombinas.
