Gregor Thurnherr untersucht beeinflussende Faktoren bei Jugendlichen in der Berufsorientierung im Hinblick auf eine duale Berufsausbildung im Nachbarland. Dazu stellt er ein Grundlagenmodell zu Berufsorientierung und Mobilität vor. Die Datenerhebungen fanden in Deutschland, Österreich sowie der Schweiz bei Jugendlichen, Lehrpersonen, Schulen und Betrieben statt. Der Autor zeigt, dass am Berufsorientierungsprozess beteiligte Akteure über Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten im benachbarten Ausland kaum informiert sind. Berufliche Ausbildungen im Nachbarland verlangen von den Jugendlichen persönliche Reife und die Bereitschaft, sich auf eine unbekannte Umgebung einzulassen. Ungewisse Erwartungen von Betrieben und Berufsschulen sowie die Distanz von Bezugspersonen hemmen die Jugendlichen.
