Die vorliegende erste, auf zahlreichen Archivquellen basierende Monografie über Franz Fickers Ästhetik untersucht die Theorie des institutionell wichtigsten Universitätsästhetikers der österreichischen Monarchie des Vormärz aus zwei Gesichtspunkten: institutionell als Bestandteil der österreichischen Universitätspolitik und ideell als Bestandteil der Geschichte der mitteleuropäischen Ästhetik. Sie stellt drei Instrumente (Studienpläne der philosophischen Studien, Konkursprüfungen und Lehrbücher) dar, die der Wiener Hof in der Restaurationszeit zur Regelung der Universitätsästhetik benutzt hat, beschreibt den Inhalt und die Quellen von Fickers Ästhetik-Vorlesungen und Lehrbüchern und gliedert sie in die Geschichte der Ästhetik ein.
