Diese Studie ist schon allein aufgrund der akribischen Erschließung des umfangreichen Quellenmaterials zum Emder Religionsgespräch im Jahre 1578 ein Meilenstein für die Erforschung des niederdeutschen Täufertums. Die Analyse der handschriftlichen Protokolle offenbarte einen komplexenüberlieferungsgeschichtlichen Prozess. Dabei konnte der mit der reformierten Seite sympathisierende "mennonitische" Protokollant Carel van Ghendt als Autor von "Het beginsel der scheuringen onder de Doops-gesinden" identifiziert werden und zugleich die pejorativen Züge in diesem frühen Geschichtswerk als konfessionelle Polemik.War die bislang kaum erforschte Binnendifferenzierung der mennonitischen Bewegung dieser Schrift geschuldet, so kann nun anhand des Protokolls ein theologisches Profil der flämischen Mennoniten präsentiert werden.[The Emden Colloquy of 1578. The Genesis of the Printed Minutes and Observations on the Theological Profile of the Flemish Mennonites]Not only because of its meticulous analysis of the voluminous source material relating to the Emden Disputation of 1578, this study represents a milestone in the research on Anabaptism in the Low Countries. A close scrutiny of the handwritten minutes revealed a complex process in the history of their transmission. In this context, the "Mennonite" secretary Carel van Ghendt, sympathizing with the Reformed party, has been identified as the author of "Het beginsel der scheuringen onder de Doops-gesinden".As the lack of research into internal differentiation of the Mennonite movement so far is due to the influence of this work, the minutes enable us now to present a theological profile of the Flemish Mennonites.
