HĂ€ufig diente er als Vorbild fĂŒr das Christsein in einer feindlichen Umgebung.Problematisch ist eine neuzeitliche Auslegungstradition, die das Opfer zum TĂ€ter umdeutet und Stephanus selbst die Schuld an seinem gewaltsamen Tod zuschreibt. Klaus Haacker unterstreicht demgegenĂŒber die psychologische und historische PlausibilitĂ€t des lukanischen Berichts von der Rolle der 'falschen Zeugen'. Insgesamt ist ein Band entstanden, der die Dramatik der biblischen Stephanusgeschichte herausarbeitet und prĂ€gnante Beispiele ihrer Wirkungsgeschichte bis ins 20. Jahrhundert Revue passieren lĂ€sst.
