Will der Protestantismus in einer zunehmend säkularen Gesellschaft anschlussfähig bleiben, so tut er gut daran, sich auf seine liberalen Traditionen zu besinnen und die darin enthaltenen theologischen Einsichten, wissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen und methodischen Ansätze für unsere Zeit fruchtbar zu machen. Dieser Zielsetzung ist der Band verpflichtet.So vereinigt er Studien zu großen philosophischen und theologischen Denkern innerhalb eines liberalen bzw. aufgeklärten Protestantismus. Die einzelnen Beiträge gelten Immanuel Kant, David Friedrich Strauß, Albert Schweitzer und Rudolf Bultmann. In konstruktiver Auseinandersetzung werden deren Impulse aufgenommen und weitergedacht. Im Anschluss daran werden zu zentralen theologischen Themen – glaubwürdige Rede von Gott, universale Offenbarung, Glaube und Vernunft, Tod und ewiges Leben – Durchblicke durch die neuere Theologiegeschichte vermittelt und tragfähige Perspektiven im Sinne eines aufgeklärten Protestantismus für unsere Gegenwart entwickelt.[Lines of Development in the Liberal Protestantism]If Protestantism has any desire to remain somehow compatible with an increasingly secular society, it would do well to reflect on its liberal traditions. Such a tradition provides theological insight, critical questions, and methodological approaches for our times. This volume is an attempt to reintroduce these traditions afresh.The volume combines studies about some of the great philosophical and theological thinkers within the liberal and enlightenment traditions of Protestantism. Thinkers such as Immanuel Kant, David Friedrich Strauß, Albert Schweitzer, and Rudolf Bultmann all make appearances. Their thoughts are first examined in their own context and then brought forward within a constructive discussion of our current moment. Moreover, this volume attempts to bring a new perspective to foundational theological themes – e. g., the plausibility of speech about God; the question of universal revelation; the relationship between faith and reason; and questions of death and eternal life – while developing new and fresh proposals for an enlightened Protestantism for our current times.
