Seit der Zeit der Reformation wird in Trier ein altes Textil als 'Heiliger Rock Christi' von Katholiken, vermehrt auch von Orthodoxen, verehrt und von Protestanten verspottet. Erstaunlicherweise verwandelt sich dieser "Heilige Rock" zunehmend in ein ökumenisches Symbol. – Die gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen sind heute andere als zu Beginn der ökumenischen Bewegung. Die Kirchen treibt – mit den Religionen – die Frage um: Wie können wir unsere Traditionen an die nächste Generation weitergeben, als Beitrag zu einem friedlichen Zusammenleben auf unserer Erde? Zu dieser Frage versammelte die Christus-Wallfahrt im Jahr 2012 hochkarätige Ökumeniker (u.a. Olav Fykse Tveit, Kurt Koch, Nikolaus Schneider, Rosemarie Wenner, Augoustinos Lambardakis) sowie Fachleute aus Wissenschaft, Medien und Kunst zu einem Internationalen Ökumenischen Forum in Trier. Das Buch gibt Anstöße für den ökumenischen Dialog ebenso wie für Schule, Gesundheit oder Soziales.
