Historische Beiträge heben in dieser Perspektive Entwicklungen in der Neugestaltung sozialer Versorgung nach 1517 hervor und beleuchten die Zusammenhänge mit der Entstehung des modernen Sozialstaats. Die Bedeutung von Nächstenliebe und Altruismus für die heutige Arbeit der Diakonie wird mit theoretischen und empirischen Analysen unterfüttert.
