Johann Hinrich Wichern (1808_1881) gilt als eine der bedeutendsten Gründerfiguren der Diakonie in Deutschland. Seine Schriften sind durch umfangreiche Werkausgaben bekannt. Doch seine Predigten werden mit der vorliegenden Auswahl-Edition nun erstmals öffentlich zugänglich gemacht. Wichern selbst hat zu seinen Lebzeiten nur zwei Predigten veröffentlicht. Die 30 ausgewählten Predigten stammen aus den Jahren 1826 bis 1873 und geben einen guten Überblick über den Homileten Wichern: von der ersten Predigt, seiner Examenspredigt und Predigten aus seiner aktiven Zeit im Rauhen Haus, über die Predigten aus dem Revolutionsjahr 1848 bis hin zu Predigten im Berliner Dom und dem Zellengefängnis Moabit oder vor Fabrikarbeitern sowie bei Jahresfesten der Inneren Mission. Mit der Edition der Predigten wird eine bislang nicht erschlossene Quelle zur Theologie Wicherns vorgelegt.
