An der Universität Wittenberg, der Leucorea, gab es bereits unter den sächsischen Kurfürsten ernestinischer Linie ein blühendes landesherrliches Stipendienwesen. Dieses wird in der vorliegenden Studie erstmals grundlegend mit seinen Hintergründen und Entwicklungen dargestellt. Der Untersuchungszeitraum reicht von der Gründung der Universität 1502 bis zum Übergang der Kurwürde an die albertinische Linie der Wettiner 1547. Durch die Untersuchung der Gegebenheiten in den 1520er und 1530er Jahren können spannende Wandlungsprozesse im Umbruch der Reformation sichtbar gemacht werden. Schlusspunkt dieses Prozesses stellte die Stipendienordnung von 1544/45 dar. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt des Bandes liegt auf dem Empfängerkreis der Stipendien. Es werden Biogramme zu mehr als 200 durch den Landesherrn geförderten Studenten geboten.[The Sovereign Scholarship System at the University Wittenberg under the Rule of the Ernestine Prince-electors of Saxony. Norm and Practice]There existed a flourishing sovereign scholarship system already under the rule of the electors of Saxony of the Ernestine line. The present study gives for the first time a basic description of this fact with all its backgrounds and developments. The period investigated reaches from the foundation of the University in 1502 up to 1547, when the electorship changed to the Albertine line of the Wettins. The research on the 1520s and 1530s shows fascinating processes of change in the early years of the Reformation. A special focus of this volume is laid on the scholarship recipients. It contains more than 200 short biographies of students supported by the Sovereign.
