Secondo la Convenzione Europea del Paesaggio, firmata a Firenze il 20 Ottobre del 2000, il paesaggio è l'esito della relazione tra le comunità locali ed i loro territori, frutto della cultura sociale che i comportamenti collettivi sostanziano per costruire identità. Consapevole che ogni individuo ha, quindi, un ruolo attivo e inderogabile nel plasmare i paesaggi, il volume affronta i principali nuclei fondanti della tematica con un approccio trasversale, frutto della convergenza di saperi specialistici. A ciò si affiancano le riflessioni di docenti scolastici, che hanno implementato con i ragazzi delle scuole della Campania iniziative volte ad avvicinarli ed a renderli consapevoli del ruolo attivo che essi hanno nella trasformazione dei loro territori. L'origine di questa simbiosi è il Progetto Formativo "Paesaggio da tutti – Paesaggio per tutti. Formazione ed educazione per la consapevolezza delle nuove generazioni" sviluppato e implementato dal gruppo locale dell'Università di Napoli Federico II dell'Associazione UNISCAPE (European Network of Universities for the Implementation of the European Landscape Convention) di concerto con l'Ufficio Scolastico Regionale della Campania.
