Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht, Gewerkschaften auf empirischer Grundlage ökonomisch zu untersuchen. Zum einen wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Faktoren die MitgliederstĂ€rke und das Verhalten von Gewerkschaften beeinflussen. Die statistisch-ökonometrische ĂberprĂŒfung von 12 ökonomischen bzw. soziopolitischen Hypothesen fĂŒhrt dabei zur Erstellung einer SchĂ€tzgleichung der gewerkschaftlichen Mitgliederentwicklung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Zum anderen wird theoretisch und empirisch untersucht, welchen Einfluss die Gewerkschaften auf die gesamtwirtschaftliche Entwicklung und hier insbesondere auf Löhne und Preise, BeschĂ€ftigung sowie Produktion und ProduktivitĂ€t auszuĂŒben vermögen.
