1875 bis 1884 – 10 Jahre lang wurde an Schloss Oberfrauenau gebaut. Architekt Albert Schmid aus München, der auch an den Entwürfen für die Schlösser des "Märchenkönigs" Ludwig II. beteiligt war, hat das "Traumschloss im Wald" im Prunkstil der Neurenaissance geplant. Erfolgreiches Wirtschaften nach dem großen Windwurf 1870 war die Grundlage dieser Investition. Zahlreiche Handwerker und Künstler fanden hier Arbeit und Entfaltungsmöglichkeit.Ein Ort der Kunst und der Begegnung. Ein Zeugnis einer Epoche. Ein Verlust nach Krieg und Zerstörung. Ein Beispiel sich wandelnder Werte. 1959 war die Sprengung des Schlosses aus wirtschaftlicher Not ein Akt weniger Tage und Wochen. Heute unvorstellbar. Der Freistaat Bayern wollte das Schloss nicht einmal als Geschenk.
