Smart Design, Science & Technology

Proceedings of the IEEE 6th International Conference on Applied System Innovation (ICASI 2020), November 5-8, 2020, Taitung, Taiwan

About this book

Smart Design, Science & Technology represents the proceedings of the IEEE 6th International Conference on Applied System Innovation (ICASI 2020), which was held in Taitung, Taiwan November 5-8, 2020. The conference received more than 200 submitted papers from at least 11 different countries, whereby roughly one third of these papers was selected by the committees and invited to present at ICASI 2020. This book aims to provide an integrated communication platform for researchers from a wide range of disciplines including information technology, communication science, applied mathematics, computer science, advanced material science, and engineering. Only high quality papers were allowed to publish in the volume. Hopefully, interdisciplinary collaborations between science and engineering technologists in academia and industry will be enhanced via this unique international network.

ABSTRACT: A new geared linkage mechanism with two length-variable links is proposed for planar path generation in this paper. This proposed mechanism consists of a five-bar linkage, a simple gear train, two elementary planetary gear trains and two slider-crank mechanisms. Two combinations, each one including an elementary planetary gear train, a slider-crank mechanism and a link adjacent to fixed link, serve as two length-variable driving links driven by a simple gear train. The proposed mechanism can be regarded as a geared five-bar linkage mechanism with two length-variable driving links. An optimal dimensional synthesis procedure is introduced to determine design variables for generating different type planar prescribed path trajectories. The formation, structure and kinematic analysis of the proposed mechanism are discussed in detail also. Two examples are provided to illustrate the proposed design method.

1 Introduction

The control of a point in the plan to follow a prescribed path is called a planar path generation problem. In general, 1 DOF mechanisms, such as four-bar linkages, geared five-bar linkages, cam-linkages and cam-geared mechanisms are suggested to deal with this kind of path generation problems for considerations of simple structure and low cost.
Path generation problems of four-bar linkages have been studied deeply and extensively by dif...
