When I was a Child

When I was a child
She poured hot glue on my face
It wasn’t on purpose
She thought she was supposed to
That it was best
I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do when your face itches
She put these lovely glasses on my face
Full of roses in the shade
With pink and red and floral green
The kind the cool kids get from the mall
She told me they would help me see
That the itch doesn’t just go away
And that I needed my parents to adjust it
Well, I knew I would be in big trouble
About why I had glue on my face
And sure enough
I got the 3rd degree
I was banned from that teacher and places I would see her
It wasn’t something I was supposed to bring up even
I even had to talk to the principal
But somehow they couldn’t see my glasses
They were invisible?
But I saw roses
They were so beautiful
And I have spent my lifetime
Trying to take these hot glue glasses off my face
Because I’m not sure I know how to see without them

There are things in life you can’t control
Like this coronavirus
Spreading and
Destroying people’s lives
But it’s outside your hands
(hopefully)
