Chapter III
Angelic Ranks
Essentially angelic classifications is divisible into four (4) distinct categories or ranks from my finite understanding of the reading within God’s words. They are in order of prominence: (1) Archangel, (2) Cherubim, (3) Seraphim, and (4) Cherub. This categorical ranking system of identification is extremely important! Simply because, not only does it identify their ranks or simply clarify the duties of each but, it also provides us with some understanding of God’s angelic hierarchy, ranks, respective duties, responsibilities and assignments. Additionally, it gives us our first glimpse into eternity past—i.e., why this war in heaven developed. How does it do this one may ask? It does so by displaying the usurpation against authority or rebellion from designated assignment by God. This is a very imperative point to reflect upon because by doing so we can see the biggest problem man has on earth was also the biggest problem angels had in heaven. This problem was following orders or accepting designated authority over one’s station regardless to how they obtained that tier of responsibility. Lucifer did not like the fact that God’s authority reined over all creation not just a part of it, or most of it, but all of heaven and earth including him too.
Satan could not fathom how one entity (God Almighty) could rule over all creation with its limitless geographical boundaries—i.e., space, earth, outer space, heaven, the heavens of heavens, the oceans, rivers, lakes and streams unilaterally without placing him (Lucifer) in some significant role as a co-ruler. Satan incorrectly concluded that surely, God needs help ruling over these subjects, animals, man and other life forms and naturally, he has chosen me to be his co-ruler because I am so beautiful. Lucifer’s covetous conclusion errantly warped in his misguided sinister imagination in that he did not realize that he himself was also a created being. Who required supervision even if he was beautiful or physically attractive with some skills sets that God implanted within him for the benefit of all not just himself. Satan did not understand the finiteness of his uniqueness or accept his defined role in the broader scheme of God’s empire. Having said that, let us briefly explore the biblical examples of the angelic defined roles.
Our first example will be the highest ranking of all the angels, the Archangel. The Archangel means just that. He is not the Commander in Chief that is Jesus Christ. However, he is the Chief of Staff or the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the angels. The title archangel is not found anywhere in the Old Testament. The title “archangel” is only alluded to in the Old Testament within the book of Daniel, when the angel Gabriel, tells the prophet, Daniel, that he and Michael one of “the chief princes” fought with a demonic prince or evil angel attempting to prevent Daniel from hearing God’s answer to his prayer for twenty-one days. This story’s narration is in Daniel 10:13, which reads as follows, “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days but lo, Michael one of the chief princes came to help me and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” This can be a little confusing because he says one of the “chief princes” Michael came to help him. Logically, by reasoning he is implying that there are more than one chief or archangels. I will divide the word of truth more on this later for clarity. Nevertheless, Michael demonstrably identified as the only Archangel in the book of Jude.
See Jude 1:9 that states, “Yet, Michael ‘the Archangel’ when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses dared not bring against him a railing accusation but said the Lord rebuke you.” This emphasis is intentional! Simply because it does not say Archangels plural, rather it says the Archangel singular. Another scriptural proof found in the book of Thessalonians, whereby the apostle Paul specifically states…for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16). There is no mention of archangels plural. Neither is there any mention of voices of other chief princes or archangels or blowing of trumps of God plural but singular. This is because there is only one Archangel. The Archangel has the unique distinction of blowing the shofar (trump of God) to announce the coming of the King of Kings to the world in which he created upon his triumphant return at his Second Coming. All things are/were created by him and for him. See Colossians 1:16. Therefore, Jesus Christ is coming again to reclaim his Fathers ownership! Get ready saints of the Most High God your redemption is drawing nearer! Another place where Michael the Archangel prominently identified is in the book of Revelation. This specific scripture for our purposes will have repeated occurrences numerously considerate readers so please endure the repetitious recitations. It is Revelation 12:7; verse whereby John tells us that, “And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon {Satan} and the dragon fought and his angels. Note it doesn’t say the ‘chief angels’ fought against the dragon it says that Michael and his angels fought against the devil and his angels in a side by side comparison.”
Additionally, Michaels’s positive identification listed in the Old Testament as well in another chapter of the Lord’s word—i.e., in the book of Daniel. Michael again is specifically identified even here as the great prince who defends the nation of Israel. Let’s review Daniel 12:1 together in its entirety denoted here it reads; And at that time shall Michael stand up the great prince, which stand for the children of thy people and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, even to that same time. Moreover, at that time thy people shall be delivered everyone that shall be found written in the book. Written in the book’s meaning is referencing the book of life that contains the entire names of all those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior discussed in the book of Revelation. Review Revelation 20:15, noted here that says, “And anyone not found written in the ‘Book of Life’ was cast into the lake of fire.” Now again there is no mention of great princes plural, just the great prince singular. Therefore, as the only Archangel, among Michael’s many duties is the awesome responsibility of fighting for the Kingdom of God in heaven as we saw in Revelation12:7. Which if you think about it for a moment it makes sense.
The Archangel fights against God’s archenemy Satan. This is another key point to bear in mind. Simply because it shows the sovereignty of Yahweh God Almighty, in that, the Lord never actually engages in a physical battle with the dragon (Satan) or his accomplices. Michael does. God is colossally superior to Satan and all other created beings that he does not fight physically against them. God allows another angel, his own equal to fight against him. God does not fight Satan because God knows that is not a “fair” fight. Satan has no chance of winning at all against God Almighty, nor does any other creature in heaven above or earth below! Zilch. However, I do have some ominous news saints of the Most High God to share with you. This will not always be the case. God says that in the future war-involving Israel against Russia, that he will come down in person to fight against the Russians and their hordes himself. Oh My Lord! Read all of Ezekiel 38 and 39 for the harrowing nightmare that is to strike Russia. I did not outline it here given the enormity of length it requires to cover the subject matter sufficiently, which will tediously, as well as unnecessarily, interrupt upon our focus on our current topic. However, I denoted it in a subsequent chapter in its entire narrative form for analysis and review. I summarized it for you in bullet point form for quicker and simpler reading and comprehension in upcoming chapters so stay tuned. Do recall considerate reader that our journey is to discover the reasons for Satan instigating war and fighting in God’s Living Room. However, this specific chapter outlining or appertaining to the future war between Russia and Israel is so imperative that it must be included and has a collateral nexus to our joint venture.
However, continuing with the primary theme of the book, this action undertaken by God displays his holy justice as well not just his since of fairness. It does so by showing conclusively that God is just, that he allows this fight to occur among or fought between peer angelic beings as opposed to becoming personally involved himself. As aforementioned, this is crucial because it shows that God does not enmesh or involve himself unnecessarily in matters of his estate. Nor does he become personally involved in a dispute that he routinely delegates to subordinates, such as the Archangel, Michael and his angels in heaven above or earth beneath. Satan has masterfully deceived many of us into thinking that he was “God’s equal” that is why the war in heaven occurred. When the truth of the matter is, neither he nor any other creature will ever amount to God’s equal. God says in Isaiah 40:25 to whom, will you liken me or (compare me) unto or whom shall I be equal? In fact, we see that Satan was not even an Archangel. We will go more in depth on this later. However, now I will summarize the duties of the Archangel. Summarily, we see that among the various duties of the only Archangel are physically fighting against the Lord’s enemy (Revelation12:7). To assist other angels engaged in battle with demonic forces, who are attempting to delay God’s answer to prayer (Daniel 10:13, Daniel 9:21). Furthermore, the Archangel is responsible for defending the nation of Israel against its enemies. The specific delegation or duty to protect the Nation of Israel, by the Archangel, is reviewable in Daniel 12:1.
Cited here, “And at that time shall Michael stand up the ‘great prince’, which stand for the children of thy people. And there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, even to that same time and at that time thy people shall be delivered every one that is found written in the book.” Additionally, the Archangel will announce the coming of the Lord by blowing the heavenly shofar (ram’s horn) trump of God at Christ’s Second Advent. Furthermore, the Archangel will do this by accompanying him, being alongside the Lord Jesus Christ while standing on the edge of space on the periphery of the earth’s atmospheric heaven. See 1 Thessalonians 4:16 that reads, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” The Archangel is the heavenly Pretorian. The Archangel serves as Chief of Staff to Christ the Son of God, while he rides behind Jesus Christ, as Christ leads the legions of holy angels and redeemed people of the Lord toward earth. This heavenly parade of forces occur during the Second Advent of Christ’s triumphant return to earth to reclaim it for his Father, Almighty God, when he comes back to the earth to battle the forces of evil. All of the minions of hell will be on earth at this time—i.e., Satan, the Antichrist, the Beast and the False Prophet as Satan’s crumbling empire is receding ending Satan’s self-imposed, despotic, dictatorial, artificial rule over the people of the earth.
See Revelation 19:11–19 cited below that describes the combined armies of holy angels and all redeemed mankind of the Lord, both Old and New Testament saints descending from heaven toward earth following The Lord Jesus Christ and Michael the Archangel to cleanse the earth of all evil beings regardless to classification as man or fallen angels. Consequently, destroying forever both the despicable rule of Satanic inspired, lopsided, one-dimensional rule of man’s law and the sphere of influence by demonic personalities including Lucifer himself as well as all principalities and rulers of the darkness of this world, demons or entities and finally people who reject Jesus Christ as Lord. Review the scriptures below that are located in Revelation 19:11–19 versus which depict this awesome spectacle.
Revelation 19:11–19
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True. And in righteousness, he doth both judge...
