About this book
This book introduces readers to three Hebrew prophets of the eighth century BCE, Amos, Hosea, and Micah. After a survey of the historical background for these prophets, and a brief introduction to each, five selected prophecies of Amos, Hosea, and Micah are discussed in detail. At the conclusion of each passage questions are provided for reflection, making the book suitable for Bible study and small group discussions.

âYahweh Roars from Zionâ (Amos 1:2â3:8)11
1 2And he said:
Yahweh from Zion roars
and from Jerusalem he utters his voice
And the pastures of the shepherds mourn
and the top of Carmel withers.
3Thus said Yahweh:
For three transgressions of Damascus
and for four, I will not revoke it
For with threshing sleds of iron
they threshed Gilead
4So I will send a fire on the house of Hazael
and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad
5And I will break the gate bars of Damascus
and cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven
And the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden
and the people of Aram shall be exiled to Kir
said Yahweh.
6Thus said Yahweh:
For three transgressions of Gaza
and for four, I will not revoke it
For they took into exile an entire people
to deliver up to Edom
7So I will send a fire against the wall of Gaza
and it shall devour her strongholds
8And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod
and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon
And I will turn my hand against Ekron
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish
said Lord Yahweh
9Thus said Yahweh:
For three transgressions of Tyre
and for four, I will not revoke it
Because they delivered up an entire people to Edom
and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood
10So I will send a fire against the wall of Tyre
and it shall devour her strongholds.
11Thus said Yahweh
For three transgressions of Edom
and for four, I will not revoke it
For he pursued his brother with the sword
and abandoned his compassion
Yes, his anger tore perpetually
and his rage he kept forever
12So I will send a fire against Teman
and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.
13Thus said Yahweh
For three transgressions of the Ammonites
and for four, I will not revoke it
For they ripped open pregnant women in Gilead
in order to enlarge their border
14So I will kindle a fire against the wall of Rabbah
and it shall devour her strongholds
With shouting on the day of battle
with a storm on the day of the whirlwind
15And their king shall go into exile
he and his princes together
said Yahweh.
2 1Thus said Yahweh:
For three transgressions of Moab
and for four, I will not revoke it
For he burned the bones
of the king of Edom to lime
2So I will send a fire against Moab
and it shall devour the strongholds of Kerioth
And Moab shall die in uproar
in shouting with the sound of the trumpet
3And I will cut off the ruler from its midst
and all her officials I will kill with him
said Yahweh.
4Thus said Yahweh:
For three transgressions of Judah
and for four, I will not revoke it
For they have rejected the law of Yahweh
and its statutes they have not kept
And their lies have led them astray
after which their ancestors walked
5So I will send a fire against Judah
