About This Book
A five-act comedy, written and performed about 1598ā1600 and first published in the First Folio of 1623. Shakespeare based the play on Rosalynde a prose romance by Thomas Lodge written in 1590. As You Like It subverts the traditional rules of romance. Gender roles, nature and politics are confused in a play that reflects on how bewildering yet utterly pleasurable life can be.
