El contenido de este libro recoge la serie de artículos que sobre la temática mujeres y constitucionalismo se publicaron en la Revista electrónica Historia Constitucional entre 2008 y 2012 coincidiendo con el bicentenario de las Cortes de Cádiz y la Constitución de 1812, debidamente revisados y actualizados para la presente edición. El propósito que preside este libro es el de contribuir a colmar el vacío historiográfico de nuestra historia constitucional en lo que se refiere a la inclusión de las mujeres en la misma, al tiempo que se pone en evidencia el llamado «pecado histórico original del Estado constitucional», o sea, la exclusión de las mujeres de los derechos políticos justamente en el momento en que se daba el salto histórico al proclamar los derechos políticos y jurídicos para los hombres.
