After winning a battle, the loyal Scottish warrior Macbeth is prophesied by three witches to soon become king. When he understands that it would be necessary to assassinate the still reigning king, Macbeth shrinks from it, and his wife takes over the killing, but, haunted by her deed, gradually falls into madness, and Macbeth himself has to keep on murdering in order to hide the previous deeds, until he finally lets it come to a decisive battle with his increasingly numerous enemies, due to further predictions of the witches still believing that he is invincible...
