En el presente trabajo se ahonda lo mejor posible en lo que concierne a la fórmula de tratamiento "vuestra merced", su creación o nacimiento, su desarrollo, evolución y transformaciones, y sus usos tanto peninsulares como americanos. Ello se hace con refuerzos bibliográficos de distintos autores. Así también, se exponen algunos objetivos para la creación de la fórmula en cuestión, que tiene su uso más popular y cuantitativo en las sociedades del siglo XVIII. Así, se llega al resultado actual, producto de la evolución de "vuestra merced", hasta llegar a su forma oral más compacta y actual, esto es, "su mercé".
