Well, here is the reality of the situation, my friend. You must sit down and make detailed revenue goals based upon reality if you are going to be able to manage a team, manage your emotions, manage your bank account, and manage the relationships with investors (should you ever want to have them).

This reminds me of a client that we worked with years ago. After looking at her numbers it became apparent that based upon her baking capacity and her current pricing that it was impossible for her to ever make more than $40,000 per year. However, once we knew the numbers and knew that denial and blaming weren’t viable solutions, we went ahead and raised her prices almost 50 cents per cookie. Because raising her cookie prices by 50 cents did not increase her rent, her payroll, or anything other than her top-line revenue. She was able to increase her income to be able to reach the financial freedom that she was looking for and she only irritated about 5% of her customers in the process.
After just one month of diligently implementing the 3-legged marketing stool (Search Engine Optimization, Targeting ads on Facebook, and Retargeting ads on Google), the execution of sales scripting, and using a no-brainer offer to close deals, a dog trainer that we worked with got to a place where they were bringing in $2,200 of sales for every $71 they were spending on ads. This company now sees their growth potential and is currently looking for real estate to expand their business.
EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER CHECK
Don’t freak out if your revenue goals turn out to not be accurate years, months, or weeks later. As an entrepreneur, you must absolutely be sold out to the rhythm of: DEFINE, ACT, MEASURE, REFINE. You must accept that you can’t steer a parked bus. You must keep moving.
