Quadrilatero d’Oro & Giardini Pubblici

The Quadrilatero d’Oro (Golden Quad) sings a siren song to luxury-label lovers the world over. This 6000-sq-metre area is home to over 500 of the world’s top fashion brands interspersed with historic palace museums and heritage restaurants. To the northeast is the 19th-century public garden framed by the Villa Reale.

Start the day at Cova, the Quad’s most historic cafe. Then tour the art-filled apartment of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli. You’ll need to put on your shades as you trot between the two to avoid being dazzled by the Quad’s display of luxury goods. Come lunchtime opt for Michelin-starred Mediterranean food in the cloister of La Veranda or a trip down memory lane at traditional Il Baretto. Wander north to the Giardini Pubblici in the afternoon. Visit Napoleon’s Villa Reale, now Milan’s museum of early 20th-century art; and then the offbeat apartment of the Casa Museo Boschi-di Stefano, which is decked out with futurist art. Aperitivo then beckons at Bar Basso or LĂčBar.
