St Pauli & Reeperbahn
St Pauli has soul. The energy, creativity and, yes, even the vices of this perennial enfant terrible transform Hamburg daily into one of Europe’s coolest cities. On a wet weekday morning, St Pauli appears a little worse for wear but when a party takes over Spielbundenplatz, there are few finer places to be.
St Pauli is rarely at its best in the morning. The only exception is Sunday mornings, when it’s worth getting up early (or staying up late…) for the Fischmarkt. Otherwise, a stroll along 930m-long Reeperbahn – always the starting point for exploring St Pauli – is a good way to get your bearings. If there’s live music or anything else happening in Spielbudenplatz, head there late afternoon. St Pauli in general, and Reeperbahn in particular, begin with a roar in the early evening and continue to crescendo in a tsunami of noise and light and music and all things risqué. All. Night.

Getting There & Around
b & X Reeperbahn S-Bahn station (lines S1, S2 and S3) and St Pauli U-Bahn station (U3) lie at either end of Reeperbahn. You’ll have to walk from either to get to the Fischmarkt, but the main port area is right next to Landungsbrücken station (S1, S2, S3 and U3). In the north, Feldstrasse (U3) is the most useful station.
