Laugavegur & Skólavörðustígur

Reykjavík’s main street for shopping and people-watching is bustling, often-pedestrianised Laugavegur. The narrow, one-way lane and its side streets blossom with the capital’s most interesting shops, cafes and bars. At its western end, its name changes to Bankastræti, then Austurstræti. Running uphill off Bankastræti, artists’ street Skólavörðustígur ends at the spectacular modernist Hallgrímskirkja.

Breakfast at Grái Kötturinn, then cross the street to explore Icelandic art and heritage at the Culture House. Marvel at iconic Harpa, then get lost in Icelandic landscapes at the Reykjavík Art Museum – Kjarvalsstaðir. After eating organic at Gló, zip to the top of Hallgrímskirkja for views. Next, either the lakeside National Gallery of Iceland or a dip in the geothermal pools at Sundhöllin. Reserve ahead to dine at Dill, SKÁL! or Nostra. Getting There & Around
