Die Untersuchung liefert im Rahmen der Aufarbeitung der nationalsozialistischen Vergangenheit der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel neue Erkenntnisse über das Kunsthistorische Institut der CAU und das Engagement seiner Ordinarien Arthur Haseloff und Richard Sedlmaier im NS-Staat. Hierfür beleuchtet die Studie nicht nur die Biographien der Akteure, sondern analysiert u.a. auch deren Lehrveranstaltungen und ihr Mitwirken in NS-spezifischen Forschungsprojekten. Diese Betrachtungen werden um die Untersuchung der wissenschaftlichen Publikationen der Akteure ergänzt, so dass ein umfassender Einblick in die Verstrickung der universalistisch und international ausgerichteten Fachdisziplin der Kunstgeschichte in die Ideologisierungsprojekte des nationalsozialistischen Regimes erfolgt.
