L'attacco portato da queste due unità al dispositivo aeronavale inglese che sorvegliava gli Stretti turchi dette origine ad una lunga azione militare, nella quale l'aviazione ebbe la prima vera possibilità di dimostrare la sua capacità di affondare da sola una potente nave da battaglia. Con l'ausilio dei documenti d'archivio, il volume ricostruisce per la prima volta nel dettaglio la storia dei reiterati attacchi portati contro il Goeben dai velivoli inglesi, i quali, per il prolungato e massiccio impiego di uomini e mezzi, rimasero un caso unico nella Prima guerra mondiale, prefigurando piuttosto scenari che sarebbero diventati caratteristici della guerra aeronavale del successivo conflitto mondiale, in particolare nel Mediterraneo.
