El presente trabajo intenta explicitar a partir de cada uno de sus artículos la intima relación existente entre la producción de indumentaria y los acontecimientos políticos, económicos, sociales y culturales que atraviesan cada período estudiado. Cabe destacar la pluralidad de enfoques convocados en esta propuesta. De forma clara y sencilla cada autora a partir de su propia visión desarrolla un período a partir de las articulaciones teóricas posibles para el mismo. Para comprender mejor aún ciertas estructuras propias de nuestro país en el siglo XX se decidió comenzar el análisis hacia 1880, momento de cristalización de la llamada generación del ´80 y su proyecto político. De esta forma desde los últimos años del siglo XIX hasta nuestros días la indumentaria es revisitada desde lo multidisciplinario enriqueciendo el panorama de este campo de estudio.
