Wo in der deutschen Bibel "Gott" steht, gibt es im Original viele unterschiedliche Namen, wie El, Elohim, El-eljon oder Jahwe. Daneben werden noch Aschera, Jahwes Frau, das goldene Kalb und die Kupferschlange, die alle auch noch im Tempel zu Jerusalem angebetet werden. Auch gibt es für das berühmte "Ich bin, der Ich bin" eine ganz einfach Erklärung. Weiter werden die Nephilim, Asasel, dem jedes Jahr zum Versöhnungstag geopfert wird, Asmodäus, Lilit und der Gottessohn Satan behandelt, ebenso wie fremde Götter, denen teilweise unter König Salomo sogar in Jerusalem eigene Tempel erbaut werden.Jahwe hat sehr viele unterschiedliche Erscheinungsformen: u.a. als Hochstapler, Eifersüchtiger, Schrecken, Unbestechlicher, Sklavenhalter, Arzt, Lügner, Betrüger, namenloser Raufbold und auch als reuiger Mensch. Die Persönlichkeit von Jahwe ist derart unterschiedlich, dass man von einem leider nicht ganz erfolgreichen Möchte-gerne-Schöpfergott vor der Sintflut, danach von einem zwielichtigen Vagabunden auf der Suche nach Bundesgenossen und zuletzt von einem unmenschlichen Diktator während des Auszugs sprechen muss. Mit diesem Ansatz zeichnet der Autor ein völlig neues aber in sich stimmiges allerdings erschreckendes Bild des angeblichen höchsten Gottes.
