Este libro es un testimonio de la Bosnia rural del valle del río Drina, que sufrió el grueso de la limpieza étnica en los 90. Partiendo de esa región aislada, de problemas inconclusos, desplazados y víctimas, y también de mujeres luchadoras y su coexistencia, es un retrato de la Bosnia moderna con su crisis social, sus activistas, su submundo alternativo y sus diplomáticos. Un país de primaveras fallidas y líderes que siguen mal gobernando sin que esa Europa hacia la que teóricamente avanza parezca poder cambiar las cosas. Casi todas las narrativas sobre Bosnia que se centran en la guerra de 1992-1995 y el enrevesado sistema institucional de Dayton adoptan además una perspectiva que sobredimensiona el aspecto étnico y religioso. Más allá de las causas de la guerra y su drama, poco sabemos sobre sus olvidadas consecuencias y, sobre todo, sobre cómo es ese país hoy: una sociedad marcada por el pasado, pero expuesta a las dinámicas del siglo XXI.
