Throughout his compositional career, Sigismond Thalberg wrote many pieces based upon the themes of other composers, including Bellini, Mozart and Rossini. In 'Souvenir de Pesth', Thalberg takes traditional Hungarian songs and manipulates them into his own creations. Text descriptions were replaced with lines and articulation marks where possible (e.g. ten. replaced by articulation marks; rit. replaced with lines above stave; dim. replaced with hairpins). Pedalling was converted to the more modern, streamline notation, and articulation marks were repositioned for clarity. Modern cautionary accidentals were also added. Rests were converted to modern standards (e.g. a crotchet followed by a quaver rest replaced by a dotted quaver rest). In places where phrase marks overlapped, these were combined into one (editorial) mark. Brackets were added where one note is written to be played with both hands simultaneously.
