In der Absicht, ein höheres Interesse an der Geschichte der deutsch-portugiesischen Beziehungen zu wecken, haben die drei Herausgeber die Deutschen Lusitanistentage in den Jahren 2017 und 2019 zum Anlass genommen, um Themen der deutsch-portugiesischen Geschichte und die transkontinentalen Verbindungen vom 15.–19. Jahrhundert mit internationalen Forschenden aus verschiedenen Fachbereichen zu diskutieren. In dem vorliegenden Band werden einige ausgewählte Beiträge der in Mainz und Augsburg organisierten Sektionen zusammengefasst. Dort wurde auch das akademische, internationale Netzwerk PORT-AL-HIST gegründet.
