Les concepts de postmodernité et de postcolonialisme revêtent en Afrique des significations radicalement différentes de celles qu'ils ont reçues en Occident. Les douze études réunies dans ce volume étudient cette différence dans des oeuvres littéraires africaines parues depuis 1948 sous quatre aspects caractéristiques: - rapports interculturels entre champs litteraires africains et européens (prix littéraires, réécriture de l'histoire, - interculturalité des textes littéraires africains (regards croisés), - nouveaux rapports entre genres littéraires (théâtre, chanson, nouvelle) et entre littérature et médias (photographie, film, internet), - nouvelles réalités (mondialisation, cyber-littérature, guerres civiles, SIDA...). Les analyses des chercheurs africains et européens sont précédées d'une introduction à la théorie de la postmodernité africaine par Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink et d'un article par Katharina Städtler qui dresse le bilan de la recherche en Allemagne et en Autriche.
