Dort muss Wilhelm zuerst das Vertrauen des mächtigen Landesfürsten Ubyé gewinnen, bevor er sich frei im Land bewegen und unter dessen Geleitschutz bis zu den Quellen des Nils vordringen darf. Wilhelms Forschungsarbeit ist erfolgreich und er will sie auf die Arabische Halbinsel ausdehnen, bevor er die Heimreise in die Kurpfalz antritt. Doch er erkrankt lebensbedrohlich und wird nach Abessinien zu Fürst Ubyé zurückgebracht, der ihn von einer seiner Töchter gesund pflegen lässt…
