Die gesamte mystische Tradition des Abendlandes ist ohne seine Texte gar nicht denkbar. In origineller Weise verbindet er das spätantike, neuplatonische Denken mit der christlichen Offenbarung. Dass Gott alles Erkennen übersteigt und wir gleichsam geblendet sind von seinem strahlenden Licht, ist einer seiner Grundgedanken. Sein Gesamtwerk ist hier nach langer Zeit wieder auf Deutsch zugänglich.
