Anhand zahlreicher Materialien thematisiert dieses Heft die Ursachen der Revolution als Scheitern der Reformpolitik der Monarchie, die Politisierung der Franzosen, die zu einer wachsenden Kritik an der Monarchie, aber auch an den Plänen zur elitären Neuordnung des Landes führte, sowie den Zusammenhang von Krieg, Radikalisierung und Terror. Am Beispiel der Mainzer Republik werden die europäischen Auswirkungen der Französischen Revolution aufgegriffen und es wird gefragt, inwiefern dieses kurze Experiment zur demokratischen Erinnerungskultur in Deutschland gehört. In einem abschließenden Klausurvorschlag werden alle im Heft aufgeworfenen Fragen nochmals aus deutscher Sicht thematisiert. Schülerinnen und Schüler sollen diese aus einer äußeren Perspektive noch einmal einer Prüfung unterziehen.
