The following selection of recommended hotels is arranged under headings according to geographical location: Innenstadt (for the Old City centre); the Station and the west (for the station and Oktoberfest); Isar and the east (for locations along or near the river and quick access to the trade fair grounds at Riem); Schwabing and the north (including spots near the Englischer Garten and Olympiapark).
There are hotel booking facilities at the main tourist information offices in Munich (for more information, click here). Do check weekend rates online – there might be a bargain. However, because Munich is an important conference and trade fair centre, it is important to book good and early; during the Oktoberfest, which lasts for 16 days up to the first Sunday in October, rooms should be reserved up to a year in advance; many stay outside Munich in places such as Augsburg and Nuremburg and commute in by train.
The symbols below are a guide to the price of a standard double room with bathroom. Breakfast is usually included. The so-called hotels ‘garni’ supply breakfast only, no restaurant meals. All prices are inclusive of service and tax.
