Originally co-produced by the Hidden Theatre and The Playwright's Center spring 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Subsequent production and New York premiere at Playwright's Horizons (Off-Broadway) in winter 2004. Production received critical acclaim from major New York publications.Won the 2004 Obie Award for Best American Play. Lucas' previous work Prelude to a Kiss won the award in 1990.Directly references and parallels Greek tragedy classic Oedipus Rex.Craig Lucas is a well-known, award-winning playwright, with two previous works nominated for Tony Awards: Prelude to a Kiss and The Light in the Piazza. Three previous works nominated for Drama Desk Awards: Prelude to a Kiss, Missing Persons and Reckless.One of three playwrights to receive the Greenfield Prize, which consists of a $30,000 commission to create a new work of art to be fulfilled by the artist in two years.He recently completed the libretto for Two Boys, an opera with composer Nico Muhly, commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera and scheduled to premiere there in a co-production with the English National Opera.His screenplay for The Secret Lives of Dentists won the New York Film Critics Best Screenplay Award
