An unremarkable house. It’s a comfortable but ugly house. Mismatched furniture, carpet, a little worn from being lived in for over twenty years, fingerprints on the walls. We are in the dining/lounge area. There’s a television which the family can see from their spots at the dining table. During pre-show it should be on but unobtrusive, the audience can hear the murmur of it and see the light flicker.

Before the show starts XAN enters from outside. She is wearing a Target uniform. She carries a plastic Target bag which she sets on the dining table. She sits and watches TV for a bit.

FANTASY:

A spotlight on RICO standing on the roof. He is a rock god. A karaoke backtrack plays. He sings a Guns N’ Roses song. He’s pretty good.

At some point, Xan turns the TV off. She exits to her bedroom.

The song finishes.

FANTASY ENDS.

Blackout.

5:41 P.M.

Lights up.

CRYSTAL is sitting at the dining table, staring at the floor. She is completely still.

FANTASY:

CRYSTAL: And it’s me at this bar and I’ve had a bad day and stopped in for a gin and soda, which I never do, but this day had it in for me and I’m in a rough enough mood to sit alone at a bar and so I am and this man sits next to me and he orders a drink and then we sit there drinking for a while, nothing happens, but he keeps glancing over, and then finally, finally says, ‘Are you Crystal?’, and I’m like, ‘What? How …’, and he’s all, ‘Gav’. And I’m like, ‘What?’ And he’s all, ‘Gavin75’. And then I know, I know who he is, and what we’ve, and yeah I always figured his pictures were fakes and he was probably a twelve-year-old kid, but no, he’s him, and he’s here, and he’s pretty hot, and we start talking and it’s just … huge, it’s a huge sparkly conversation and then he says, ‘Want to go for a walk’, and we get into his truck and drive out to the dirt and start walking, and it’s a full moon, and it’s a perfect temperature and we talk and talk and walk and walk and then we stop talking but keep walking and then he grabs my hand and stops me and he pulls me around to face him and I say, ‘Should we?’, and he says, ‘I have to’, and I say, ‘Me too’, and he says, ‘Okay’, and I say, ‘Yes’, and he kisses me and kisses me and kisses me and kisses me and we lay down in the sand and he takes off his pants—

XAN enters. She has changed out of her work clothes. She walks across the dining room and exits into the kitchen.
