In an SAP implementation project, there are many things that you need to ensure are done (the do’s)—these are your success factors. However, there are at least as many potential sources of error that you need to avoid (the don’ts)—these are your risk factors. This chapter will give you several useful tips to ensure that your plant maintenance project is a success.
1.1 A Possible Process for Your Plant Maintenance Project with SAP
In the basic discussion of a possible process for your plant maintenance project with SAP, you should differentiate between the implementation strategy and its accompanying methodological approach.
1.1.1 Implementation Strategy
Most enterprises implement plant maintenance in a series of stages rather than in a single step (i.e., the full range of functions in all plants). Therefore, during project planning, you need to make a fundamental decision in relation to the stages in which you’ll implement plant maintenance. There are two aspects to consider:
